The research group of music
history Cameratta Lusittana started its activities in Belo
Horizonte/MG in 1999. It is dedicated to the study and
representation of vocal music from the XVI, XVII e XVIII. The
Cameratta’s creation work follows the latest Historical
Informed Interpretation. Consequently, the group seeks greater
understanding about the society and musical practices in the
enviroment to which the music belongs. The repertoire is based
on Brazilian Colonial Music and Latin american music as well
as on portuguese and spanish music as colonizators of America.
Standing out from the concertos
of the group are the realization of the Cerimonia do Ofício
das Trevas at midnight on the Friday of Christ’s passion held
at the Igreja Matriz de Santa Luzia, the Christmas concerto
held at the Centro de cultura de Belo Horizonte. Besides it, a
recent season of concertos “Músicas dos descobrimentos” have
passed by the Festival de inverno de Sabará (Nossa Senhora do
Carmo church), Ouro Preto (Nossa Senhora do Rosário) and in
the capital: Assembléia Theater, Cultural City Center of Belo
Horizonte, Sesiminas Theater and São José church.
In 2003, Cameratta took part in
the Second Festival of Black Art (FAN) with the concerto “ The
music of the Slaves” and showed the music of the mulato José
Mauricio Nunes Garcia to an audience of more than a thousand
people. It pioneered the interpretation of “Te Deum Laudamus”
by the pernambucan composer Luis Alvares Pinto in Belo
Horizonte.
In 2004 realized the projects:
“I Brazilian and Latin American Colonial Music Workshop”,
pioneer event in Belo Horizonte that consisted of lectures,
debates, concertos and workshops ( Lei Municipal de Incentivo
à Cultura de Belo Horizonte- Fundo); “Ancient Music of Brazil
concertos in the Royal Road Circuit” (Lei Estadual de
Incentivo à Cultura, Patrocínio Usiminas), first edition of
the concerto cicle in the towns of the circuit Royal Road.
In 2006 Cameratta produced the
“II Brazilian and Latin American Colonial Music Workshop”,
succes with the audience at the Assembléia Legislativa de
Minas Gerais theater.
Cameratta produces events tha
aim at the democratization of the access to classical music,
the foment to the study and performance of brazilian colonial
music, as well as the formation of the audience to this
musical gender. Lately, it is capitalizing resources to the
production of 10 concertos in churches and public schools in
the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte.
Composed essencially by
classical music students from the main music schools of Belo
Horizonte, the Cameratta Lusittana has been a oportunity to
professionalize and improve the artistic skills of the
capital’s youth. The group is formed by up to 15 musicians,
varying its size according to the repertoire to be interpreted.
